Ambassador attended the 11th Annual General Meeting of the Federation of Thai Language and Culture Teachers in Europe (FTTE)

On May 28, 2022, Ambassador Kanchana Patarachoke and Minister Counselor Thanida Menasavet attended the 11th Annual General Meeting of the Federation of Thai Language and Culture Teachers in Europe (FTTE) under the theme “Thai Language without Borders”, hosted online by the Thai Studies Association in Sweden. The Embassy also provided certain amount of financial support for the Association’s activities including this meeting.

This year’s meeting was well attended by over 70 Thai language teachers from countries throughout Europe, who came together to share their experiences on teaching Thai as a mother tongue, especially through the use of technology and online application.

Participants also learnt about the techniques on how best to instil the Thai language and culture to Thai children born in Europe from Ms. Salee Silapasatham, who developed a series of Thai course books “Sawasdee”, used in many schools throughout Europe.

In her opening remarks, Ambassador Kanchana stressed how learning multiple languages can complement one another and that learning the Thai language and culture helps Thai children abroad understand their roots. Ambassador Kanchana appreciated the Swedish system which provided the learning of mother tongue language in school system and urged participants from other countries to push for the same system. She also highlighted the importance of both parents and children recognizing and appropriating the benefits of learning mother tongue language.

The Royal Thai Embassy in Stockholm appreciates commitment and efforts by the Thai communities and volunteer groups in Sweden and elsewhere who come together to help Thai children learn about their language and culture
