Ambassador met with owners and masseuses of traditional Thai massage salons in Gothenburg and nearby cities.
On 1 September 2024, Ambassador Arunrung Phothong Humphreys met with owners and masseuses of traditional Thai massage salons in Gothenburg and nearby cities as part of the project of the Embassy , together with Thaiwise, to raise the standard of Thai massage in Sweden.
Ambassador Arunrung reiterates that one of the Embassy’s important jobs is to protect the welfare of Thais who live in Sweden. The Embassy has supported financially and collaborated with the Thai Women in Sweden Empowerment Project (ThaiWISE) to organise the training course on ethical Nuad Thai (traditional Thai massage) business and relevant laws and regulations on how to run a massage salon in Sweden in Malmo , Stockholm and nearby cities. The aim of the project is to make sure that Thai massage salons comply with Swedish laws and regulations and to protect the women working in them. So far, there have been 37 Thai massage salons participating in and already completed training courses with this project
The extension of the project to Gothenburg, the second largest cities in Sweden with great economic potential, received positive support from the City of Gothenburg and the Environmental Department of Gothenburg.
The Embassy would like to thank all Thais in Sweden who have committed to improve the standard of Nuad Thai, Traditional Thai Massage,the pride of Thai people which was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity under UNESCO.
