Ambassador participated in the commemoration ceremony of King Chulalongkorn’s visit to the city of Ragunda.

On July 19, 2024, Ambassador Arunrung Phothong Humphreys, with staff from the Royal Thai Embassy and Team Thailand and families, participated in the commemoration ceremony of King Chulalongkorn’s visit to the city of Ragunda in 1897 at the Thai Pavilion in Utanede, Bispgården, which is organized by the Ragunda Municipality. Other parties include Thai-Swedish Unity Foundation 1897, representatives of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, and Thai communities from various cities in Sweden, such as Sundsvall, Örnsköldsvik, and Uppsala.

Mr. Anton Hammar, Mayor of Ragunda Municipality, highlighted the sharing of knowledge between Thailand and Sweden for over a century, particularly in the field of forestry. Also that the Thai Pavilion in Utanede stands as a testimony of friendship between the two nations and emphasized the importance of its ongoing preservation for future generations. Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the Thai community for their continuous involvement and positive contributions to the city of Ragunda. On this occasion, Ambassador Arunrung further elaborated on the lasting impact of King Chulalongkorn’s visit, which has echoed and materialized into concrete projects related to forestry management in Thailand. The Thai Pavilion is a physical symbol of great relations between Thailand and Sweden. The Royal Thai Embassy has been working with the Ragunda Kommun to maintain the Pavilion’s building and landscape. In August this year, the Royal Thai Embassy and the architects and experts from the Department of Fine Arts in Thailand will visit the Pavilion and assist the kommun in the site inspection survey and evaluate the renovation of the Thai Pavilion, both in technical and architectural aspects.

On this day, the Royal Thai Embassy together with Ragunda Kommun and Thai community in Sweden jointly organized the Thai Festival in Ragunda at the Thai Pavilion. Thai community showcased Thai handicrafts, art of fruit carving, Thai traditional dance, Thai massage , Thai boxing (Muay Thai) and Thai desserts making demonstrations. Visitors also enjoyed Thai food and desserts and participated in playing games. It was a fun and enjoyable day for everyone!
