On 1-2 August 2024, Ambassador Arunrung Phothong Humphreys, along with the economic officer and staff of the Royal Thai Embassy in Stockholm, visited Malmö and Lund. The Ambassador met with government and private agencies in the areas to find ways and means to promote economic, trade, and investment cooperation, including innovation for sustainability, with Thailand, which aligns with the Foreign Ministry’s Proactive Economic Diplomacy.

On 1 August 2024, Ambassador Arunrung met with Mr. Johan Edgren, Strategist at the City of Malmö office and Mr. Ulf G Andersson, CEO at Medeon Science Park. In discussions with both agencies, it became evident that Malmö is a city with significant economic potential. It is a thriving hub for SMEs and Startups, particularly in technology, innovation for sustainability, life science, and the games industry. Malmö plans to invest in major large-scale infrastructure projects, such as the Öresund Metro and the Innovationplattform Stad project, contributed to revolutionising the food industry and supporting further economic growth in the Skåne and Greater Copenhagen area.

On 2 August 2024, Ambassador Arunrung met Mr Christian Halberg, Department of Sustainable Growth, at the City of Lund’s Office. Lund is considered to be another city with high economic potential. It is also home to Lund University, which has been outstanding in academics and research for centuries. Lund is also home to the Lund Innovation District, a collaboration between the government, private sector, academia, and civil society that has driven Lund to become an important innovation district in Sweden. On the same day, Ambassador Arunrung met with Mr. Magnus Hoffstein, Head of Sales, VP Business Unit Food Heat Transfer, Alfa Laval Company, at the factory. Both sides discussed Alfa Laval’s vision of promoting sustainability and exchanged ideas for supporting investment by Alfa Laval Company, which has invested in Thailand since the 1960s.
