Songkran Festival at Wat Buddgasothorn in Uppsala

On 11 April 2026, Ambassador Arunrung Photong Humphreys together with diplomats and staffs of the Royal Thai Embassy, Team Thailand in Stockholm, including Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Director of the Board of Investment (BOI), as well as officials and their spouses, attended the Songkran Festival at Wat Buddgasothorn in Uppsala. The event brought together members of Thai community in Sweden to celebrate Thai cultural traditions and support Buddhism.

On this occasion, the Ambassador expressed appreciation to all sectors for their continued efforts in preserving Thai traditions abroad. The Ambassador also emphasised that “Songkran in Thailand” has been inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The Ambassador further extended New Year wishes to all attendees, encouraging everyone to think well, act well, and conduct themsevles virtuously for prosperity and good fortune.

The Ambassador also took the opportunity to introduce Embassy’s diplomats and staff and Team Thailand to the community. The event featured a range of traditional activities, including religious ceremony, merit-making and alms-giving, the ceremonial pouring of water to pay respect to elders, a communal Kathin-style robe offering (Pha Pa Samakkhi), Thai cultural performances and music, and a selection of Thai cusine.
