The Workshop on Sustainable Forestry for the People: Economic benefits and environmental concerns. (Day 2)
Today (18 May 2021), H.E. Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, opened the Workshop on Sustainable Forestry for the People: Economic benefits and environmental concerns. This workshop is second of the series of three workshops and is a part of the Thailand and Sweden Sustainable Development Forum 2021, co-hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy in Stockholm, the Embassy of Sweden in Bangkok, the Swedish University of Agricultural Science (SLU), the Royal Forest Department of Thailand, National Innovation Agency, and Thailand Management Association. The Forum includes three workshops on the topics relating to smart/sustainable cities, sustainable forestry and sustainable ecosystem for startups, to be held between 17-19 June 2021, and a business pitching event for Thai and Swedish business sector in September 2021.Many interesting topics emerged from today’s discussion such as the balance between environment protection and economic use of forest, comparison between Swedish and Thai Forest Policies, how local communities can help increase forest coverage and how they can benefit from forest, roles of business sector in sustainable forestry, how to empower local foresters, timber standards and certification, and opportunities for future collaborations in the area of sustainable forestry between Thailand and Sweden. #plant_trees_in_the_hearts_of_the_people.
