Ambassador organised a seminar to disseminate information on the development of standards for ethical Nuad Thai (traditional Thai massage) business in Stockholm.

On 10 November 2023, Ambassador Arunrung Phothong Humphreys, together with Ms. Panadda Changmanee, Project Manager, Thai Women in Sweden Empowerment Project (ThaiWISE) and ThaiWISE team, organised at the Embassy a seminar to disseminate information on the development of standards for ethical Nuad Thai (traditional Thai massage) business in Stockholm. The participants included owners of and employees at a number of Thai massage salons in Stockholm and Uppsala who expressed interest in joining the project. Participating Thai massage salons in Malmö also shared their experiences online.

Ambassador Arunrung reiterated that empowerment and protection of Thai nationals in Sweden has been a priority of the Embassy. The Ambassador also expressed her appreciation to Thai women working in the Thai massage business in Sweden for their determination to develop standards for Nuad Thai, which is Thailand’s pride. It has also been inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2019.

The Embassy and ThaiWISE will work together with Swedish counterparts for the success of the project on development of standards for ethical Nuad Thai business in Stockholm and its surrounding cities, which has already been successful in Malmö. The Embassy also plans to replicate the project for Thai massage salons in other cities in Sweden.
